Tightlining is a subtle, but effective way to define your eyes but still look natural. For those nice-to-get “You look so great! There’s something different about you… but I can’t put my finger on what it is…” compliments The eyeliner is hidden under the lashline, not applied on top of it like a typical cat eye look, for a discreet but totally flattering result – especially if you have lashes on the lighter side of the spectrum. The best thing? It’s super easy – you can do it in just three steps. Here’s how:
Our marketing exec Aleks looks amazing in both the before and after photos above –but see how her eyes are slightly more defined in pic 2? That’s the look we’re creating with just three products in three steps – a black kohl liner, a liquid or gel eyeliner and mascara.
STEP 1: Line the top inner rim of your eye (along the waterline under your lashes) with a black kohl pencil. We’ve used the super long-lasting Cynthia Rowley liner from the February Birchbox here.
STEP 2: If you lift your eyelid slightly, you’ll see there are a few small gaps between your eyelashes. Use a liquid or gel liner like Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner to stamp the space between the lashes and fill in any gaps between them. You’re aiming for one continuous line along the lash line – stay along the lashes, it will look less natural if the liner strays above.
STEP 3: Finally – and this is optional, depending on whether you feel like you need it – add a coat of your favourite mascara.
Voila! Natural-looking definition for your eyes – the line is hidden along your lashes so it looks like you’re not wearing any make-up. The bonus: It’s so easy! Let us know how you get on in the comments below.
